Joaquin’s First School Shooting

This week's banned book is:

Did you know that as of May 15th, there have been 224* mass shootings in the United States? Did you also know that firearms recently became the number one cause of death for children and teens in the United States, surpassing motor vehicle deaths and those caused by other injuries?

Change the Ref (CTR) was formed to amplify and support youth efforts and movement building. They use urban art and nonviolent creative confrontation to advocate for the eradication of the gun violence epidemic and to expose elected officials who are bought and paid for by the NRA and gun manufacturers.

If not, you're 100% living under a rock, a Republican, or BOTH.

American politicians funded by pro-gun organizations refuse to acknowledge the urgent need for stricter gun control laws. That's why Change The Ref decided to explain it to them in the easiest way possible: as if they were five years old. They tell the tragic story of Joaquin "Guac" Oliver, one of 14 students killed in a high school mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. Instead of finger holes to help kids turn the page, bullet holes bore through the entire book, representing the same bullets that cut short innocent lives.

So, here's what we think.

No one needs a weapon of war. It's time to reinstate the assault weapon ban in the United States.
