For the 2nd consecutive year, Gender Queer was the most "challenged" book of 2022!
And, by "challenged," we mean BANNED.
Kobabe wrote this illustrated novel so that readers could learn about how they felt physically different from a young age but could not express it openly.
We've read this book and all of the supposed graphic illustrations and think this is a perfect way to help young children learn more about their gender identity and maybe even learn more about their own bodies, or a friend if they're lucky enough to know someone that identifies as nonbinary.
So here's what we think:
Buy this book for yourself, your kids, and then for your likely racist grandparents.
